Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun

Kimberly Shaw-Peterson (2008), Making Spirits Bright: One Book at a Time

Lucy eats ketchup on her toast. She worries that she is different but Papa Gino reminds her that it’s okay to be different and to remember that everyone has a heart with feelings. At school, Ralph glares at her and makes fun of Lucy and her favorite sandwich, spaghetti in a hot dog bun. When Lucy comes home sad, Papa Gino comforts her and encourages her to be herself. The next day at school Ralph is still bullying her but suddenly needs help. Lucy remembered that everyone has a heart with feelings so she helps Ralph. By showing kindness to Ralph, Lucy learned how to be good to other people and accept herself. The very next day she brought spaghetti in a hot dog bun to lunch.
